eCargo bikes, according to the DFT (Department for Transport) are a cost effective solution for many. They are an alternative means of transporting a variety of commodities safely and efficiently.
As a result, the DFT is offering a business grant, and a share of £400,000!!
The eCargo Bike Grant Fund 2021/22 is now live, offering up to 40% cost coverage for a pedal assisted cargo bike. Grants are capped up to £2,500 for a two-wheeled unit and £4,500 for a three-wheeled eCargo bike.
For example, that means businesses can potentially acquire an eCargo bike for almost HALF PRICE….!
Worthy of note is that there will be a cap on applications for those wishing to buy a fleet. Up to five bikes per organisation is the limit. There will be a review of each application on a case-by-case basis. As such, there is no guarantee that the maximum number of bikes will be granted.
TIMINGS & PROCESS
The applications process is now open until December 14th of this year, with a subsequent claims deadline of February 14th, 2022.
Funds will be cleared direct to the bank account of successful business claimants following approval by the Energy Saving Trust. This organisation is managing the Government cycling initiative.
There is strong evidence that switching to eCargo bike delivery is beneficial to businesses in terms of both cost and time savings. This is especially true especially in urban environments.
