Riese & Müller Charger4 Vario

The Charger4 Vario from Riese & Müller builds on the huge success of its predecessor.

As the name suggests, the Charger4 Vario boasts the wonderful Enviolo (formerly known as NuVinci) 380 seamless hub gear for easy, simple and endless gear options. It offers a comfortable 380% ratio range and can shift under loads of up to 80Nm continuous torque. Furthermore, fitted as standard is the silent and bomb-proof Gates carbon drive belt for even greater luxury.

The Vario version of the Charger4 is one of several in Riese & Müller’s range. Each one features stunning new technology and unique design. The Charger4 comes with Bosch’s 750Wh PowerTube, beautifully and cleverly integrated into RM’s unique frame design. Also, the Intuvia 100 features as standard.

The fully integrated long range 750Wh battery fits perfectly into the stylishly designed frame. The 85Nm Performance Line CX motor, provides a depth of power.

The optional Bosch PowerMore 250Wh additional battery provides even more range. It’s only as big as a drinks bottle and weighs just 1.6 kg. It’s so portable and can be stowed away in a backpack or bike bag. Should you spontaneously decide to go on a longer trip, then just attach the energy reserve to the down tube and continue riding. That makes 1000Wh of range!!

Ultimate looks, power & performance

Most striking is its multi-award-winning design, followed by its athletic features. Undoubtedly, the Charger4 models are like a six-pack cast in aluminium. A precisely-conceived geometry guarantee the ultimate in riding comfort. Also, the Bosch Performance CX (Gen4) drive delivers above and beyond with its high torque. As such, with its tremendous, high-torque driving force and pedal assistance of up to 340%, the CX motor is capable of conquering any mountain and terrain.

The Vario version of the Charger4 offers 28″ Schwalbe Big Ben Plus tyres for a smooth and comfortable ride. Also worthy of note is that they’re multi-purpose, ideal for pretty much every application and come with a puncture resistant lining.

The Charger4 Vario comes with some nifty anti-theft features too. An Abus frame lock mounted over the rear wheel prevents opportunistic theft. Additionally, both the ABUS and battery lock share the same key, which means you only need one key to do both jobs.

Bosch’s Smart System facilitates the use of the Intuvia 100 display and provides all rider information clearly and concisely.

How do I measure my height?

With your shoes off, stand upright against a wall, with your shoulders back and legs together. Use a pencil to make a small mark on the wall above your head (make sure you hold the pencil parallel to the floor). Then measure from the floor to your mark, in centimetres or feet and inches.

How do I measure my inside leg length?

With your shoes off, stand upright with your back against a wall. Place a book/ruler between your legs, level with your crotch. Then measure from the floor to the top of the book/ruler, in centimetres or feet and inches (it’s easier if a friend helps).

Q & A

Do all brands of ebike use the same unit of measurement?

No. Most brands show sizing in centimetres, however some use a S/M/L system, and others use inches. The table above includes all of these variations to help you find the right size.

Which size should I go for if I'm in between those listed?

If your measurements suggest that you have a choice of two different sizes, then in the end it’s a personal choice. Here are some rules of thumb to consider: Touring/Trekking ebikes - choose the smaller size. It is possible to make a smaller frame bigger (for example, by raising the saddle or fitting a longer the stem), whereas if the frame itself is too big for you, it’s likely to be less comfortable and won't feel right. eMTBs - choose the larger size. You’ll find an eMTB with a slightly larger frame easier to handle than one that feels cramped. You can always fit a shorter stem if necessary to reduce the reach to the handlebars.

How are ebike frame sizes measured?

An electric bike’s frame size is calculated by measuring the distance from the top of the seat tube (where the seat post inserts), to the centre of the front chainring. Sizing Guide
